This is a wonderful tribute and great retirement note for Ms Slopen. I wonder how many would-be writers plagued her once Terry's story became known. I have to confess I was one of them, ultimately resorting to a pitch letter structured as a short story about a debut writer seeking, and getting, an agent. She didn't respond. I eventually found a publisher on my own. Happy to join in celebrating her contribution nevertheless.

Hear, Hear! Beverley has meant so much to writers who needed a ‘leg up’ in the industry. Thanks for including great photos of her that I had not yet seen.

Terry, a fascinating story of merit winning out over status and the old-boys network. I will likely be self-publishing and you story gives me hope. It was good to get the background on your awards.

Well said, Terry. Over the years, I too have found Beverley to be an extraordinary agent and a delightful friend. I don't know where I would be without her.

What a terrific story about “capturing” your literary agent many years ago now. You had such grace in your communications with Beverley Slopen from the outset through all the twists and turns. I was so glad that you self published, and then narrated your first few novels and offered them as free audiobooks. That’s when I was first hooked. I didn’t know that TBLP became a mini series. I’ll contact CBC to inquire whether it’s somehow still available for viewing. Love your A Novel Journey posts - thanks Terry!

Great tribute, Terry!

As you know -- since you arranged it! -- I had the great fortune to talk with Beverley briefly. My interaction was very much the same as what you describe here. She was so generous with her time and honest (but kind) with her opinion.

I'm not sure she would remember me even, but in any case, please pass along my congratulations to Beverley on her retirement!

It all started by you taking a risk, Terry - congratulations. And of course having the eye of a smart, experienced and intuitive editor.
