We need more of these kind of visionary editors and publishers in the current book business.

Great suggestions for interesting reads, Terry! You have inspired me to start with Gibson's. I like to think I play a small part in supporting the wonderful world of publishing and reading books. Each year I choose one book and order a dozen copies. I give them out as hostess gifts, birthday gifts, or special favour thank yous. Friends seem to enjoy receiving a thoughtfully chosen book, and I feel like I've done a service to the book writers as well. The bonus: conveying thoughts through books is a powerful way to shape the world around us.

On that note, one friend recently thanked me profusely for giving her A New Season last Christmas. She took it with her on a trip to Paris last month, and happened to be staying in the Latin Quarter as she was reading it. Your descriptions of the cafes and scenes added life and lustre to her travel experience, and made the story come totally alive for her.

I was reading along and I kept thinking , "But but but... he can't talk about publishing and not mention Doug Gibson!!! I should have known better.

Phew! And thank you!

Loved "Genius" -- a highly under-rated movie. Watching Perkins and Wolfe interact taught me a lot about my own writing, which was an added bonus. I'll have to get the book!

I really enjoyed the book. I read it a few years before the movie was released. I loved the movie, too. I knew very little about Thomas Wolfe before reading the book.

Excellent point! A classic satire well worth revisiting.
