I personally think my tongue would be so tightly wrapped around my nerves that I would have mumbled ‘Mello Hargaret’ or some stupid thing. I am loving your posts for so many reasons. One -they are inspiring, Two - I worked with your cousin at the hospital and he was immensely proud of you and was occasionally inappropriately hilarious (hence why I decided to read Best Laid Plans and gave as a gift to friends who needed some laugh out loud levity in their life). Three- I am learning some stuff.
Thanks for this great read on meeting Canada’s BEST!
How totally cool is that? Yeah - deep words, I know. And I was wondering if you were going to mention the Leaside connection. I remember looking up in awe every morning at school - amazed that she had walked in the same halls as us. Hmmmmm.....I think your name should be added in gold paint too, Terry!
That's hilarious! I mean, every instance of meeting her seems to have some layer (or two) of hilarity to it. To have Margaret Atwood threaten to heckle you -- and heckle you while she's threatening to heckle you -- has got to be one of the best stories in CanLit ever.
I've never met her, though she did do a reading at Chapters in Thunder Bay after that location won a visit from her by buying the most of her books, or something. The place was packed and there was a line-up way past closing time of people wanting to get her signature, and I didn't want to add to her being a minute later of what must have been an already-exhausting day. I don't regret my decision, but I would sorely like to meet her one day -- as the person she is as much as the writer she is.
Wonderful stories, Terry! You're living the writer's dream!
Thank you for sharing such a touching story. So glad you’ve had these precious opportunities with such a gifted Canadian. Totally get being in awe and finding yourself face to face with the object of your affection. Media training helped me through several circumstances. I remember meeting then Prime Minister Jean Chretien. He put me at ease by his charming demeanour. That topped all the training tips … be charming.

Thanks for the kind words, Sandra. Glad you're enjoying this little experiment of mine.

Thanks Graham. It has been kind of surreal. Hope you're well.
