In the treacherous world of publishing and distribution, by the time the whole supply chain takes its cut (especially Amazon) there’s precious little left for the author himself. As Ken Whyte has pointed out, these days the only way the author, and even the publisher, can make any money is through direct sales to the end customer. But that’s a whole other challenge.
